A quick update on The Forecast—and how I’m choosing to focus my finite human energy.
Over the past year, I’ve genuinely loved building a digital presence for my magazine dreams—and especially enjoyed working on The Drift. This digital newsletter was a place to think out loud, test ideas, and see what resonated in real time. It did exactly what it was supposed to do, mostly without catching fire.
But producing a digital newsletter takes a surprising amount of time, attention, data-wrangling, and existential dread. I’m very happy to share a much greater appreciation for all those who are grinding out their Substacks. However, with a few new projects competing for brain space, I’ve decided to pause The Drift for now and focus on what feels most central to The Forecast’s long-term vision: the print magazine and the podcast.
Think of it less as “cutting back” and more as “strategic plate removal.”
What this means for you:
You’ll still receive the next issue of The Forecast in print (Ink! Paper! Something you can hold!)
Please complete this form to confirm I have your correct mailing address.
The podcast continues, where conversations can roam freely, and no one asks about open rates.
The Drift isn’t dead—it’s just sleeping, like a beloved TV character whom the writers might bring back when the timing is right.
The Forecast has always been a work in progress, and I’m trying to build it in a way that’s thoughtful, sustainable, and perhaps, one day, profitable. I’m grateful you’ve been part of this experiment and this community.
And speaking of forecasts: The Simpsons once predicted that one day we’d all change how we say goodbye. So I’ll sign off in the hope that prophecies do come true.
Smell you later.
